"How To Make Your Arrangements Last Longer"
Two questions asked when purchasing flowers are “How do I take care of them?” and “How long will they last?” From a single stem, to a small arrangement to an abundant design of fresh-cut flora, just a little care can make a significant difference. Most floral arrangements last approximately 4 – 7 days based upon the type of flower(s) and the conditions they are kept in. A little “love” from you and the flowers should re-pay this and provide pleasure for you for longer.
Here are some recommendations to keep your flower arrangements looking good and extending their time.
Vased:
- Keep the water-level high in the container;
- We recommend changing the water daily. When doing so, clean the container;
- Re-fill the container with fresh, warm, water mixed with floral food and/or 1-drop of household bleach. If no floral food, 1-drop of bleach alone with the water can be used;
- If changing the water daily, trimming the stems of the flora with a sharp tool is best. If changing the water only after 2-3 days, cut 1” – 2” off the stems. For woody-stemmed flora such as forsythia, use sharp pruning shears. It is preferable to remove foliage that may be below the water line.
Floral foam:
- Keep the floral foam – often used in opaque containers – thoroughly soaked;
- Do NOT remove flora from the foam et cetera.
Boxed flowers & bunches/hand-tied bouquets, we will place water tubes (on most) floral stems. However:
- Get into a water-filled container promptly & handle as shown above for “Vased”.
For all fresh-cut flora, regardless of container:
- Keep in a cool location – approx. 65F (18C) – away from heat sources such as TV, radiator, room vents, appliances et cetera;
- Keep out of drafts – cold as well as hot;
- Keep out of direct sunlight;
- Keep the arrangement off surfaces that might stain from water. Place a saucer or table mat under the container if placing it on a porous surface; and
- Keep away from animals and small children in case of accident.
